The Ancestral Birthplace of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu -Janmasthana Temple

According to local tradition and historical research by Nabadwip-based scholars, this site (Birthplace of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu) in the northern part of Nabadwip town is the original location of the house of Jagannath Misra and Sachi Devi. Unlike the institutionalized sites across the river, this Janmasthana temple offers a more intimate look at the saint’s origins. It features a shrine marking the exact spot where Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was born under a Neem tree. The temple complex is a quiet, spiritual space that local residents hold as the authentic site of the Avatar’s appearance.

At the Chaitanya Mahaprabhu – Janmasthana Temple, the Lord is considered a child and hence the service to the Lord does not begin with loud chants or celebratory sounds from Bells, since the child Nimai cannot tolerate so much noise. Instead the Lord here wakes up, wipes his eyes and then the temple opens.

The Chaitanya Janmasthan Mandir at the location of the birthplace of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is administered by Vaishnava Babajis. The tradition of worship and service observed here is said to follow the Pathbari lineage established by Shri Shri Ramdas Babaji Maharaj.
