Sri Sri Baladeb Jiu Temple
The main idol of the Sri Sri Baladeb Jiu Temple is of Shri Baldeva Chandra (Shri Balaram), the elder brother of Shri Krishna. The other dieties are of Shyamsundara-Radharani, Gopala and Giridhari Govardhan.
The idol of Sri Baladeva Chandra is approximately 300 years old and it was brought to Navadwip from Butuni Village near Dhaka in the late 1800s. In 1906, Umasandari Dasi donated the land where the present temple of Shri Baladeva Chandra stands.
The Sri Sri Baladeb Jiu Temple is a stunning architectural marvel known for its elegance and serene atmosphere. Characterized by a soothing white exterior, the temple is adorned with intricate carvings and detailed designs that captivate every visitor. At the entrance, guests are welcomed by a magnificent, large gate featuring an impressive 3D horse sculpture at the top, which serves as one of the site’s most striking visual highlights.
The interior of the Sri Sri Baladeb Jiu Temple complex is thoughtfully organized to facilitate both worship and community service. It houses several key areas:
The Garbhagriha: The inner sanctum where the deities reside.
The Kirtan Mandap: A dedicated hall for devotional singing and spiritual gatherings.
The Yard: A spacious open area for devotees to congregate.
A central part of the temple’s daily life is its kitchen. Here, devotees busily prepare Bhog, the sacred food offering. Following tradition, these meals are first offered to the deities before being distributed to the public. This blend of beautiful artistry and vibrant spiritual practice makes the Sri Sri Baladeb Jiu Temple of Nabadwip a significant destination for both tourists and worshippers alike.
