Krishnanagar: Royalty and Fine Clay
Krishnanagar is a city that wears its history on its sleeve. As the old seat of the Nadia Raj, its crowning glory is the Rajbari (Royal Palace). While parts of it show their age, the intricate carvings and the grand courtyard during Jagaddhatri Puja still feel incredibly regal.
The city’s real magic, however, is in the hands of its people. In the neighborhood of Ghurni, you’ll find artisans making the world-famous Krishnanagar clay dolls. They are so lifelike they almost seem to breathe. Before you leave, you have to try the Sarpuria and Sarbhaja – these local milk sweets are legendary for a reason and are the true “taste” of the city.
